Gift Certificates should require an email address
Email on Gift Certificate product page should be required. I am told that it is not because the because the customer might be buying it for themselves. The problem with that is that if they check out anonymously, no one gets a gift certification and that results in an unhappy customer. I am sure if the customer wants it emailed to themselves, they wouldn't mind typing in their email address.
Here is what I am told happens today.
1) if an email is entered on the gift certificate page, the gift certificate is emailed to that address
2) If no email is entered on the gift certificate page, then the email is sent to the buyer, provided that they are not checking out anonymously.
3) if no email is entered on the gift certificate page, and the buyer checks out anonymously, the gift certificate is emailed to no one.
It would be great to be able to add a customer's name to a gift certificate, so it would be easier to identify.
Apparently, there is currently no record at all of the gift certificate recipient's email address in the system. Some customers call to complain that they or the recipient never got the email with the GC code. (Likely trapped in a spam filter, or they typed it in wrong.) Would be very helpful to be able to look up the recipient's email address as the customer input it into the form.
The simple solution would be to add the recipient's email address to the Gift Certificate summary screen in the 3dcart backend: https://mydomain.com/admin/giftcertificate_edit.asp?id=6395
Then we would have a record of where the gift cert email was sent. This should be pretty simple for your dev team to implement.
The gift certificate option needs other features. I would include a history, notes, easy way to find used certificates and who used them. Order notes would be huge for the above suggestion- Why did you give them a gift certificate?? It is currently set up for obvious abuse by employees. Gift certificates are the same as cash and should be treated as such. We currently have 2700 gift certificates out- I would love to see notes on each and who they are being sent to at a bare minimum.

Right now the only way for a customer to receive store credit is if we issue them a gift certificate in the admin panel. The problem is that we have to keep track of their amount and GC number because when they forget (and they always do!) there's no way for them to pull it up on their account page. We have to create some sort of separate record of the gift code. If the names (or email addresses) were included on the gift certificate page, you could easily filter the results & find their code & balance for them.
